Wolf Blass will drink to that

1985 Melbourne Cup

According to the http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/sport/horseracing/an-australian-guineas-win–wolf-blass-will-drink-to-that-20150306-13x30q.html Blass will be putting out one of the best horses in one of the most important races in the Australian racing calendar:

In 2000, winemaker Wolf Blass left an important meeting in his home country of Germany to concentrate on another pressing matter.

It was Mindarie-Halidon Cup day in South Australia and the man who has been an important cog in the Australian wine industry’s growth on the global market had a starter in the race.

Blass rang the tiny racecourse, 200 kilometres north-east of Adelaide, and asked if he could ring later and listen to a broadcast of the race on his phone. The club, which stages few meetings, happily agreed to Blass ringing five minutes before the race.
